Creating a unique display with your photo books will give your living space a personal dimension and look great too. Plus, they’ll be within easy reach when you want to look back on all your favourite moments.

So, you’ve created a few photo books and now you’re wondering what to do with them. Sure, you could leave them on the coffee table or hide them away on a dusty book shelf, but then you won’t really be making the most out of them. We’ve got eight unique tips for creatively displaying your photo books that will look great in your home and put your moments in pride of place.

Create a series

When you create your photo books, print the spines or covers with the same text and format to create a sort of series. For example: ‘New York 2018’, ‘Berlin 2017’. Then when they’re lined up on the shelf it will be easy to see what you’re looking at and it will look tidy in your home.

Design tip: Make use of our linen photo covers to create a coherent series of photo books with matching covers.

Colour co-ordinate

We’ve all seen those amazing book shelves on Pinterest that are sorted by a colour code. Well it’s not difficult to create your own and immediately give your home a modern, stylish vibe. Simply group your photo books into colours. They don’t have to be exactly the same, just similar tones and shades and then line them up on the book shelf in order. The more photo books you have, the more striking the display will be so you could also mix in actual reading books to bulk out the collection.

Design tip: Organise your photo books with a colour code. For example, your summer holiday books could all be yellow, parties blue and anything Christmas-themed red. Use a photo on the cover in that colour.

Invest in invisible shelving

Hanging some invisible shelving in your home stacked with your photo books will create the illusion of floating books and instantly brighten up your living space. Plus, they’ll save space and avoid you covering any surfaces with photo books.

Design tip: Play with the alignment of your shelves to create a unique display and don’t worry about them being perfectly symmetrical.

Mix it up with decorative props

Plants, ornaments, clocks and lights can all be used to make your photo book display more appealing. Simply line up your books on a shelf and then place some props in between them to create a sophisticated book shelf.

Design tip: Keep the colours of your props neutral to avoid your shelves looking too busy.

Choose monochrome

When creating photo books it can be tempting to choose your most colourful photo for the front cover, but a black and white photo on the front is more timeless. If you always choose a black and white photo cover, all of your photo books will match seamlessly and look great in your home without even having to give it much thought.

Design tip: Add monochrome books to an already colourful living space to create a stylish contrast.

Use a cook book stand

Create a cook book photo book out of all of your favourite recipes and then put it in the kitchen on a cook book stand. You’ll be able to leave it open on one page for everyone to see.

Design tip: Change the display page of your recipe book depending on the season. A salad recipe will work better for summer while a hearty stew will warm up your kitchen in winter.

Make use of your fireplace

Fireplaces are often at the centre of living spaces, so they’re the perfect place to display your photo books. Stack them up in a line and watch visitors gravitate towards them when they come and visit.

Design tip: Keep it simple and angle your photo books to face forward, giving off the impression that they are ready to be read.

Create a book wall

Create an elegant personal library in your home. This will look stylish wherever you put it, from the living room to the dining area. Simply put up some shelves that ideally cover a whole wall, then put all your books on the shelves. From photo books to novels and travel guides to cook books, they can all be displayed in one place.

Design tip: Organise your books by themes. Bunch all of your travel books and city guides together (including photo books) to create a ‘travel section’ and all of your cook books together to create a ‘food section’.
